Sunday March 6th Game Review – Kitchener vs. Ottawa
Special thanks to Kathryn Jean (twitter.com/msconduct) for the Game Review
OTTAWA - Cody Ceci scored his 8th goal of the season in heroic fashion as the Ottawa 67’s defeated the Kitchener Rangers by a score of 2-1 in front of a crowd of 7,590 at the RONA Centre.
Tobias Rieder opened the scoring for the Rangers as he backhanded a shot and beat Shayne Campbell high up from the slot. From that moment on, Campbell shut the door robbing several Kitchener Rangers on key scoring chances.
It wasn’t until the 11 minute mark that the 67’s got on the board. Shane Prince showed great vision with a nice feed to Ryan Martindale who wired a beautiful top-shelf shot past Brandon Maxwell for the tying goal. The goal was a huge weight lifted off his shoulders after he was unable to convert on some great chances earlier in the game.
Both goaltenders played well to keep the game close with exciting end-to-end action. The game was destined for a shootout until Jake Cardwell fed a crisp pass to Ceci who flipped it over Maxwell for the win with 31.4 seconds remaining in the 3rd period.
Tonight’s win secures a 5 points lead for the 67’s over the Oshawa Generals for second in the Eastern Conference. Consequently, Kitchener drops their 2nd straight game on their roadtrip and remains in second in the Western Conference only two points behind the Owen Sound Attack for first.
The 67’s travel to Kingston and take on the Frontenacs in their final road game of the regular season. The Rangers return home on Friday to host the Owen Sound Attack. The game is on Rogers Sportsnet for the CHL game of the week at 7:00pm.
News & Notes:
Marc Zanetti and Petr Mrazek will resume skating on Monday. They were both out of the lineup due to lower body injuries … Jon Carnevale will miss the rest of the season after suffering post-concussion syndromes from Mar 2nd … Top prospect Ryan Murphy missed his second straight game. He was sent home after feeling woozy from taking a puck to the head in Mar 4th game vs Kingston.
