OHL Game Day Previews for February 12th, 2012

Game Day Previews for Sunday February 12 2012

Peterborough at Brampton
The Petes visited the Attack in the 519 last night.  They were not sharp at all and were the victims to a 11-0 thumping.  They gave up 4 goals in the first period and 5 goals in the second.  Neither D’Agostini or Morrison had an answer tonight.
Brampton had the day off to host a fan luncheon. One of the popular questions must have been – when are you guys going to start winning again?  They have dropped 6 games in a row but are still 1 point ahead of Barrie and Sudbury in the #3 spot overall in the Eastern Conference.
My prediction Peterborough 3 Brampton 5

Guelph at Kingston
Guelph continued their Eastern roadtrip with a stop in Belleville last night dropping a 3-1 decision.  Rookie Dickinson had the lone goal for the Storm(6th of his career).  They are tied with the Greyhounds now at 49 points – Guelph wins the tiebreaker (identical won/loss record so we go to GF ??)
Kingston was at Oshawa last night so they may still have their bus legs on.  Jacob Riley gave Bobkov the night off. Jenkins had 2 assists. In the overtime shootout the Fronts did not score – and the Gens scored twice. The team had a respectable 40 shots on goal.
My prediction Guelph 2 Kingston 3

Kitchener at London
The Rangers were at Plymouth Saturday night where they were in a back and forth game  They were winning 3-0 before Plymouth scored 4 in a row. Kitchener then reeled off 3 more goals and the Whalers scored another – but the Rangers win a close match 6-5. Jack Moylan made his first appearance in the OHL and received the win. The Rangers are certainly being tested with games against the top 2 teams in the Western Conference last night and now this afternoon.
London had the night off – resting up after a high scoring affair with Plymouth (8-6 victory). Houser had the win to take over the top spot in franchise history.  Jared Knight with 2 goals and Austin Watson with a goal and 2 assists. Scott Harrington gathered 2 assists in his second game played for the Knights since Dec 09 2011.
My prediction Kitchener 2 London 5

Windsor at Mississauga
Windsor hosted the Otters last night and were able to push them around to the tune of 5-0. Pavelka stopped all 33 shots sent his way. Chris Marchese with 3 points in the game – Ben Johnson, Kerby Rychel and Brady Vail with 1 goal and 1 assist each.  The Spits are sitting in 7th place in the Western Conference now with 53 points. They are only 2 points behind Saginaw and 3 points behind Sarnia.
The Majors had Saturday off after taking care of the Generals on Friday night 5-2.  Riley Brace had the natural hat trick in the 3rd period to complete the win.  They are now in 9th place in the Eastern Conference trailing Belleville by 1 point, Peterborough by 2 points and Oshawa by 3 points.
My prediction Windsor 4 Mississauga 2

Belleville at Ottawa
The Bulls hosted the Guelph Storm yesterday. The Storm scored the first goal of the game (Dickinson) in the second period but the Bulls came back with 3 third period goals to take the victory. Subban was strong in the nets with 33 of 34 saves.  They are now in that coveted 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference trailing Peterborough by 1 point and Oshawa by 2 points. Mississauga is ready to take their place as they only trail by 1 point.
The 67’s were off Saturday – reflecting on their home loss to the Guelph Storm 5-4. They gave up 2 early goals in the first 7 minutes – and continued to trail early in the third period 5-2 but were not able to complete the comeback.  Tyler Toffoli had a shorthanded and a powerplay goal. Giftopoolos notched his first goal since December 28 – the 11th lamplighter of his career.
My prediction Belleville 3 Ottawa 4

Saginaw at Plymouth
Sagniaw is nestled in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference. They have 25 wins, 23 losses and 5 shootout losses good for 55 points.  They have 7 wins in their last 10 games.  Last night’s back and forth match with the Greyhounds did not end in their favour – losing 4-3.  Josh Shalla continues his strong month with 5 goals and 3 assists in the past 4 games. Trochek has 2 goals and 7 helpers in the past 5 games – Captain Saad has 4 goals and 6 assists this month.
The Whalers hosted the Rangers on Saturday night. They were up against a rookie goaltender – Spott electing to give Franki Palasezze the night off and Jack Moylan sees his first OHL start.  The Rangers scored 3 in the first and third periods while the Whalers scored 4 in the second period and one in the 3rd for a temporary lead which would not stand.  Noessen with 2 goals, Aleardi and Miller each with 1 goal and 1 assist. Plymouth and Kitchener are now tied with 73 points
My prediction Saginaw 2 Plymouth 6

Niagara at Oshawa
The Icedogs were in Barrie last night where they played the Colts to a 3-0 final score.  Wigle with a goal and Freddie Hamilton had 2 goals. Dougie Hamilton will be eager to play in this match after serving his 10 game suspension for an illegal head shot last month at Sudbury.  The Dogs are now in first place with 71 points which is 16 points ahead of Oshawa in the standings. The Generals always seem to play the Dogs tough.
The Generals were hosting a young Frontenacs squad on Saturday. They were leading 3-1 in the third period before the Fronts tied it up to send it to overtime.  Christian Thomas with 2 goals on the night.  Laughton continues his strong play – scoring in the shootout.   Watch for Petgrave to be on the scoresheet in this game against his former team.
My prediction Niagara 5 Oshawa 2

Sarnia at Sault Ste Marie
Sarnia  played a short staffed but scrappy Wolves team in Sudbury last night. The Wolves only managed 3 shots in the third period but they were able to outscore the veteran Sting squad in this game. Each team was efficient on the powerplay with Sarnia going 3/6 and the Wolves scoring twice on three chances. Yakupov scored his first goal since January 27. Basso and Thompson had the other goals.  The Sting are in fifth place in the tightening Western Conference. They have 58 points which is one point behind the surging Owen Sound squad and three points ahead of the Spirit.
Sault Ste Marie was in Saginaw, Michigan last night. In last night’s match they were able to pepper 21 shots at Clint Windsor but only got by him once. Findlay’s late third period powerplay goal was the difference in this back and forth game. Fuller, Spoul and Cousins had the other goals. Jack Campbell stopped 29 of 32 shots as well. The Greyhounds are tied for the final playoff spot with Guelph (49 points each)
My prediction Sarnia 4 Sault Ste Marie 3 (OT)
