The Week Ahead...October 11th

After a busy turkey weekend in the O, this week promises more excitement with 25 games on the schedule.

The action kicks off on Wednesday night with Mississauga traveling to Erie, where they look to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season last weekend. Look for them to do so, as they face a struggling Otters team that has started the season at 1-5-0.

On Thursday we have 3 teams in action, with Belleville visiting Niagara, Peterborough at home to Niagara, and Plymouth making the drive to Windsor. After finishing just outside the CHL top ten last week, the Petes will look to continue their strong start in the first of three tough games for them this week. I like Niagara to take this matchup though, as they will want to bounce back after losing a shootout in Barrie last Saturday.

Friday promises to be a very busy night in the OHL with 9 games on the schedule, with Belleville and Windsor being the two teams getting the night off. Brampton and Ottawa should be the game of the night, with Battalion coming off their victory against the Central division leaders last week; they look to take down another division leader in Ottawa. This time away from home promises to be a much tougher task as a hot 67 team should hold them off.

Nine more games on Saturday promise to deliver more excitement. Majors and Petes have the night off, with Peterborough back at it on Sunday and Mississauga done for the week. The game of the night is in the Midwest, as newly appointed Team Canada assistant coach, and Guelph head coach Scott Walker leads the Storm to London to take on rookie sensation Max Domi and the Knights. Ranked the top team in the CHL last week, I like London in this one, but expect a close one with the Storm playing much better than expected early in the season.

Things do not get any easier for the Knights on Sunday as they will travel to Sarnia to take on the West division leaders the Sting. They will have their hands full with potential first overall pick Nail Yakupov, who currently sits forth in league scoring. This will be the third game in three nights for both teams, so conditioning will be a big factor in this matchup. Other games include Windsor in Brampton for an afternoon game and Oshawa versus Peterborough to close out the week.

Players to watch:

Zach Hall and Colin Behenna of the Barrie Colts

Currently sitting 2ndand 3rd respectively in league scoring (Tanner Pearson, also a member of the Colts sits in 1st), both players have point streaks that date back to the start of the season. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to produce for Barrie as they go on the road this weekend.
