Reviewing Friday, March 4th's Match-up Between the Ottawa 67's & Barrie Colts

Barrie Colts @ Ottawa 67’s Game Review – Fri. Mar 4th

Thank You to Kathryn Jean (Twitter.com/msconduct) for this game review.

Monahan shines… again in 67’s win

Sean Monahan
Sean Monahan continues his hot streak with a pair of goals and an assist in the Ottawa 67’s 5-2 victory over the Barrie Colts in front of a crowd of 6,591 at the RONA Centre Friday night.  Monahan is coming off an impressive hat-trick performance against the Belleville Bulls on Wednesday night.

The win is Ottawa’s 7th straight home win and moves them 5 points ahead of the Oshawa Generals for first overall in the Eastern Division.  Oshawa has two games in hand.

Cody Ceci opens up the scoring after burying a shot from the point to mark a powerplay goal half way through the first period.  Tyler Graovac gives the 67’s an insurance goal after he capitalized on a rebound right on the door step of the Barrie goal.  However, two minutes later, Tanner Pearson cuts the lead in half roofing the puck over Shayne Campbell off a big rebound.  Another two minutes later is long enough for Sean Monahan scoring his first goal off the night off a shot in the slot.

Petr Beranek made it a little more interesting in the second period as he scored just seconds before the Colts’ powerplay expires.  Unfortunately, the comeback came up short.  Campbell was tested many times in the last two frames, but he stood on his head and shut the door completely.  Thomas Nesbitt and Monahan rounded out the scoring for the 67’s as they cruise to a 5-2 win.

The Ottawa 67’s have the day off as they prepare for the newly improved Kitchener Rangers on Sunday afternoon at the RONA Centre.  Meanwhile, the Barrie Colts also enjoy a day off until they travel up the 401 towards Kingston to take on the Frontenacs in a Sunday matinee.

NEWS & NOTES:
Sean Monahan has 6 points in two games this weekend including the game winner for both games on Wednesday and Friday … Starting goaltender Petr Mrazek was unable to start due to a lower body injury.  He is listed as day-to-day … Marc Zanetti is set to start skating on Monday after suffering a knee injury that has kept him out for the past 10 games … Tonight’s win improves the 67’s home record to 22-5-1-1, this is the best record in the whole OHL.
